Prime Time With Ravish Kumar, Feb 12, 2019 | No Silver Lining In Sight For The Unemployed?
On Prime Time, we present a report on the protests by unemployed youth in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh over the lack of jobs and the anomalies in filling up of vacancies in government departments in their respective states. Later on the show, Mahesh Vyas, MD & CEO of Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy Pvt Ltd tells us that the unemployment rate in India has been growing steadily and that the current situation is 'alarming'. Mr Vyas adds that EPFO data or the count of commercial vehicles being sold do not imply that employment is being generated.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his speech during the motion of thanks to the President's address in Lok Sabha said that statistics of new EPFO enrolments and the heavy sale of commercial vehicles are by themselves indicators of employment being generated in the unorganised sector. (Audio in Hindi)
